Alistair Strathern, MP for Hitchin, attended Stotfold and Arlesey Royal British Legion’s (RBL) Big Sleep Out fundraiser, to show his strong support for their campaign.

The event, part of the RBLI’s Great Tommy Sleep Out Challenge, highlights the struggles many former service personnel face after leaving the armed forces. The RBL is raising money and awareness to support veterans who are currently homeless.

The local group are well on the way to hitting their goal of £1000 raised, with supporters from across the community digging deep to pledge over £750 already. There is still time for donations, which can be made here.

Commenting Alistair Strathern MP said:

“It was brilliant to attend and support the work of Stotfold and Arlesey’s RBL at their cracking fundraiser. They are a lifeline for so many in our veteran community both locally and beyond.

“It’s heartbreaking that, in one of the richest economies in the world, we still have veterans sleeping on the streets. Anyone who has put on a uniform to serve our country deserves the dignity of a home.

“I’m proud that our community is digging deep to support this important cause and would urge anyone able to to donate.

“As our MP, I’m proud the Government has already pledged further action to support homeless veterans right across the country, but as campaigns like this show there is still more to do!”
