PRESS RELEASE FROM ALISTAIR STRATHERN MP

TUESDAY 24th FEBRUARY 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Alistair Strathern, MP for the Hitchin Constituency, joined staff at MHA Elmside Care home in Hitchin to celebrate care worker Barbara Ashton’s 10 years of service across MHA ran homes locally.

Since joining MHA, the UK’s largest charity run care provider, in 2016 Barbara has become a trusted and much‑loved member of the care team. Her compassion, professionalism, and steady presence have enriched the lives of countless older people and their families.

At the celebration event, Alistair Strathern MP praised Barbara’s contribution and the vital role of care staff in shaping the quality of local services.

“You can tell the difference between really good homes and ones that could do better, and it’s the staff,” he said.

“Barbara’s dedication over the past ten years is exactly what makes that difference.”

Reflecting on her milestone, Barbara emphasised the importance of teamwork in delivering exceptional care:

“When you’ve got a good team, everything else falls into place. I’m honoured to do this work, and it meant so much to receive this award.”

MHA is encouraging members of the community to get involved, whether by volunteering time, supporting fundraising efforts, or helping raise awareness of the charity’s work. Every contribution, large or small, helps MHA continue delivering great care to older people now and into the future.
