PRESS RELEASE FROM ALISTAIR STRATHERN MP
WEDNESDAY 4th MARCH 2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Alistair Strathern, the MP for the Hitchin constituency, has teamed up with Gavin and Stacey star Alison Steadman to champion palliative care.
Strathern met with Steadman and local palliative care nurses in Parliament with Marie Curie, the palliative care charity, to mark and promote their Great Daffodil Appeal. Steadman was there as a Charity Ambassador.
At the event he also spoke with Seeta, a Marie Curie nurse who supports families across East and North Herts, about the important work they do supporting families across his constituency.
Marie Curie provide care for the most vulnerable at the end of life in hospices and in homes. Strathern has been one of a number of Labour MPs, alongside Marie Curie, campaigning for more support for end-of-life sector, to ensure no one dies without the support they need.
Across Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire, Marie Curie are active supporting many locals and their families. Strathern has also been working closely with two local hospices, Keech and Garden House, to connect them with ministers to ensure they get the funding they need to keep providing their invaluable service for our communities.
Alistair Strathern said:
“No one should die without the care, love and support they need. It must be a national mission to ensure we live up to this.
“I am proud to support the extraordinary work Marie Curie does, and their latest Great Daffodil Appeal.
“I know how valued end of life care is locally, and how priceless the work of organisations like Keech and Garden House can be. I will continue to work every day to support them and the sector.”
