PRESS RELEASE FROM ALISTAIR STRATHERN MP

FRIDAY 6th MARCH 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Alistair Strathern, the MP for Hitchin, has celebrated an agreement of a £2m investment to expand Langford Village Academy.

The academy serves the village of Langford in Mr Strathern’s constituency, and had faced real pressures accommodating local children following the growth of the village. The new funding will enable the school to finally invest in appropriate facilities to accommodate intakes of 45 pupils per year group.

The school has temporarily expanded its size, going beyond its quota, and a more permanent solution was needed. Strathern met with Central Beds Council to repeatedly raise the case for funding to give parents confidence and certainty in the school’s future.

Strathern has said he will be working with the council and school to make sure this money is delivered and actioned as speedily and effectively as possible.

Alistair Strathern MP said:

“Local families in Langford have been calling for some time for the council to finally invest in the village academy.

“It's dragged on for far too long, so working with local families and the school, I've been pressing CBC to finally act.

“I'm delighted they finally have confirmed this long overdue investment. It is fantastic news for students, parents, and teachers in Langford. It will give them the facilities and funding to ensure every child in Langford gets the start they need.

“I will be working closely with the school and Central Beds Council to make sure this money is spent as well as possible, and as fast as possible.”
