Local MP welcomes new pre-school to constituency

Alistair Strathern, Labour MP for Hitchin attended the launch of the new Preston Village Preschool this Saturday (2nd November) and welcomed it to the constituency.

After the recent closure of Preston Preschool, local families are set to enjoy a fresh start with the opening of a new early years school on Tuesday, January 7, 2024. It will be led by seasoned early years educator Jacqui Fairey, who brings over 33 years of experience as the founder Teddybears Preschool in Hitchin.

With access to childcare a key issue for many parents locally, the new pre-school is an important boost to local facilities. The launch on Saturday was well attended, with a number registering for the pre-schools open day.

Access to childcare locally is a big issue for many families, and Mr Strathern has made expanding access to affordable childcare one of his local priorities for the Hitchin constituency.

As part of this commitment, he is working with the Government to boost funding for new nursery school provision and ensure access to free childcare hours continues to be expanded.

Commenting, Alistair Strathern MP said:

“I’m delighted that Preston Village Preschool will soon open its doors!

“Far too many parents are forced to manage long drop-off and pick-up journeys or even cut back their working hours to make it work.

“Every family deserves access to quality childcare and support, and Jacqui’s commitment to making that a reality for local families is inspiring. This preschool is fantastic for local families and an amazing addition for Preston.”

Commenting, Jacqui Fairey said:

“I have been running Teddybears preschool in Hitchin for 33 years and felt that it was a shame for the children from surrounding villages in particular Preston, not have the opportunity to Early Years Education.

“I am opening the new preschool Preston Village Preschool on Tuesday 7th January 2024.”
