19 May 2024: My week in Parliament and Mid Bedfordshire

A quick round up after another busy week…

Universal Studios is a huge opportunity for our area, but we know we will need significant road and rail improvements to make it happen. It was great to speak to Three Counties Radio about my thoughts on the project and how I am working with local and national stakeholders to make it happen. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/gMRnLAdLL8vgu2e6/?mibextid=WC7FNe

I know what a priority action on neighbourhood policing and local crime is across our towns and villages. It was great to meet with John Tizard For PCC our new PCC to discuss how we can work together to ensure more police presence in our communities, robust action in rural crime, and lobby for fairer funding for Beds police force.

Far too many families are being let down by the management of their new estate. This week I was out in Stondon speaking to residents about issues on their estate I’ll be taking up with the developer. If you have challenges on your estate please do reach out to alistair.strathern.mp@parliament.uk

Delivering energy security and clean renewable power is a priority for getting bills down and meeting our climate commitments. It was great to speak with industry and policy experts this week about how Labour could lead on this in government.

As a user of Arlesey train station myself, I know how painful challenges with Peak time services, reliability and accessibility can be for users. It was great to meet campaigners at the station this week to discuss how we can work together to push for the improvements we desperately need.

Britain is facing a biodiversity crisis and while any measures to protect and support nature are to be encouraged, we need to go a lot further, faster. It was great to speak in a Westminster debate this week about the action Labour would take to protect our fantastic countryside.

One of the real pleasures of being our MP is getting to join fantastic local businesses and groups celebrate in their success. This week was no exception, and it was a real privilege to join Midas Civil Engineers to celebrate the opening of their fantastic state of the art new offices in Maulden!

Thank you to everyone who came along to this weeks constituency surgery in Flitwick. This week coming we’ll be in Aspley Guise on Thursday!
