PRESS RELEASE FROM ALISTAIR STRATHERN MP

TUESDAY 2nd SEPTEMBER 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Alistair Strathern, MP for Hitchin, has urged the Government to continue to step up its response to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, during an intervention in Parliament.

In his speech, Strathern drew on the experience of Becky, a Hitchin constituent who has been working on the ground in the region, who treated civilians and witnessed first-hand the devastating human impact of the conflict.

Strathern pressed ministers to go further to push the Israeli Government to allow a flood of aid into Gaza. This intervention continues Strathern’s long-standing commitment and work to promote humanitarian issues and an urgent need for a ceasefire. In recent months, he has met with local and national campaigners and pushed ministers to step up their work to end the heartbreaking loss of life and suffering in the region.

Alistair Strathern MP said:

“Our community has shown huge compassion and concern for current situation in the Middle East.

“I will keep standing up in Parliament to ensure their voices are heard, and to press the Government to act with urgency and humanity.

“The work of people like Becky could not be more inspiring. We should all be so grateful to every medical and aid worker who has gone to Gaza to do whatever they can to ease the human suffering there.

“It is hard to find the words to describe the horror in Gaza. All Governments must not rest until the violence stops, aid flows uninhibited and the remaining hostages are freed.”
