Alistair Strathern MP has today welcomed over £12 million in vital funding to upgrade services across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, following campaigning efforts with local ICBs.
Under the plans, Lister Hospital will receive £1.77 million, while Bedford and Luton & Dunstable hospitals will benefit from a combined total of over £10.5 million. The new cash will deliver vital maintenance at the hospitals, helping to improve patient care, reduce waiting times and prevent cancelled appointments and operations.
Across the country, over 400 hospitals, mental health units and ambulance sites will be handed £750million to tackle long-term problems such as leaky pipes, poor ventilation and electrical issues.

Commenting, Alistair Strathern MP said:
“I know through my work with our local hospitals and from conversations I have day in and day out with residents relying on these hospitals, how vital this funding is.
“Since I was first elected and met with Bedford and Lister hospitals, I committed to fight for the investment they desperately needed. It’s great to see the Government listening and acting.
“It’s very welcome news that Lister, Bedford and Luton hospitals will all benefit – delivering better patient care for everyone.
“Better patient care can only come if our brilliant NHS staff have the facilities they need to deliver it. This funding means more appointments and fewer cancelled operations and helps us deliver on this Government’s pledge to make our NHS fit for a future.”
