MONDAY 7th JULY 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Alistair Strathern, the MP for the Hitchin constituency, attended and celebrated Shefford’s Green Fair this weekend.
A part of Shefford’s Family Fun Day, the Green Fair highlighted local environmental groups and set out how we all can all be local environmental champions. It also sold nature-friendly products as well as plants.
The Fair was organised by Plastic Free Shefford, a local environmental group Strathern has met before. A subdivision of Surfers Against Sewage, this group campaigns for a cleaner and greener Shefford, alongside to other local groups like Plastic Free Hitchin.
Prior to being an MP, Strathern headed up the Bank of England’s climate policy. Since being elected, he has spoken frequently on our environment, championing tougher action on pollution of our waterways and better investment in recycling schemes.
Alistair Strathern MP said:
“It was fantastic to visit Shefford’s Green Fair and meet so many committed environmental campaigners.
“We are lucky to have lots of effective environmental groups locally, who help to conserve our beautiful area.
“A big thank you to the group Plastic Free Shefford for their organising efforts.”
