FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Local hospices secure Government funding for upgrades
Garden House Hospice in Hertfordshire and Keech Hospice in Bedfordshire have both received funding as part of a Government scheme to provide £75 million in additional funding for hospices investment. The funding comes as part of a wider national boost to end-of-life care services, helping hospices to modernise their facilities.
Keech Hospice Care in Bedfordshire has been awarded £569,259. Garden House Hospice has secured £369,785.
Alistair Strathern, MP for Hitchin, welcomed the funding which will enable key investments in the two local hospices serving his constituency. Both Keech and Garden House play a vital role supporting families in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire to receive high quality palliative care at incredibly difficult moments in families lives.
The MP recently visited Garden House Hospice with his colleague Chris Hinchliff, MP for North East Herts, to see first-hand the vital work undertaken by staff there.
The £75m funding joins £25m delivered last year to make up the Government’s £100 million capital package for end-of-life care. This latest £75 million pot will be allocated throughout 2025–26 and will deliver room and lounge improvements as well as solar panels to reduce bills.
Alistair Strathern MP said:
“I know just how important high quality hospice care is in supporting families through incredibly difficult end of life moments.
“Hospices offer such important care with compassion and dignity at the heart of what they do.
“Speaking to local families, I am always blown away by their stories of the impact of the fantastic work undertaken by Keech and Garden House.
“For too long we haven’t invested enough in palliative care, so I am delighted to see investment going to brilliant local organisations like Keech and Garden House.
“That’s why I’ll keep pushing for long-term, sustainable funding so our hospices can continue delivering the care local people need and deserve.”
