PRESS RELEASE FROM ALISTAIR STRATHERN MP
FRIDAY 19th SEPTEMBER 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Alistair Strathern, MP for Hitchin, was impressed this week by pupils on an environment-themed visit to Kimpton Primary School.
Students from the school wrote to Strathern in the summer with questions about how we can better protect the environment.
Strathern met with the students from the school, answering their thoughtful queries about protecting trees and wildlife, plastic pollution, and greener energy.
This engagement with Kimpton pupils today is part of Alistair’s ongoing commitment to the environment, including supporting massive clean energy investment in Westminster, successfully campaigning for new homes to come with solar panels and working with local groups to protect our local environment from sewage, fly-tipping and flooding.
Strathern encourages all schools to engage with environmental issues, believing that when young people get involved, their energy and engagement can often highlight the need for real action.
Alistair Strathern MP said:
“It was brilliant to meet such knowledgeable and passionate pupils at Kimpton.
“They asked great questions, showed awareness beyond their years, and wanted to see action. They reminded me of a major reason wanted to enter politics in the first place: to prioritise our planet and all who will inherit its future.
“These pupils at Kimpton are pushing me to do more.
“I intend to listen, to act, and to make sure our government takes not just small steps, but the bold ones needed for everyone.”
