Labour MP for Hitchin, Alistair Strathern stepped into the boxing ring this week, not for a political fight, but to shine a light on the power of grit, resilience, and emotional wellbeing for young people.
Strathern joined a session hosted by GRIT, a charity that has spent the past seven years helping young people build the mental and emotional tools to thrive, both in the classroom and beyond.
The visit comes on the back of the Labour Government’s proposal to introduce “grit-focused” education into schools, a move that GRIT has long championed.
Alistair Strathern MP, praised the work being done:
“The sessions that GRIT run are transformative for the young people they work with and I’d encourage anyone interested to try it out!
“This kind of grassroots, preventative work has real benefits, from improving emotional regulation to overall wellbeing to academic success.
“It gives young people confidence, focus, and real, measurable outcomes to keep them motivated. I’m pleased our government has recognised the benefits of grit-focused education and I’ll be working with them to help role this out nationally.”
