PRESS RELEASE FROM ALISTAIR STRATHERN MP
FRIDAY 29th AUGUST 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Alistair Strathern, MP for Hitchin, has praised two young residents of Fairfield Park who have run 100km this August to raise funds for their grandad’s recovery.
Ollie (11) and Harry (13) were inspired to take on the challenge after watching their grandad, Bob, recover at Stoke Mandeville Hospital following an accident that left him unexpectedly paralysed from the waist down.
Strathern met with Ollie in Fairfield as he finished his daily run. Simultaneously Harry ran while on holiday.
The boys have already smashed their original fundraising target, with money raised going towards a specialist wheelchair to support Bob’s independence. Every extra pound will now help to adapt Bob’s home.
Supporters can back Ollie and Harry’s challenge via their JustGiving page:https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/hawkins
Alistair Strathern said:
“Ollie and Harry are showing what true community spirit looks like
“At such a young age, to take on and complete this huge challenge for their grandad is nothing short of impressive.
“I know people across Fairfield Park, and right across our towns and villages, will be proud of them and I’d encourage everyone to support their efforts if they can.”
