PRESS RELEASE FROM ALISTAIR STRATHERN MP
THURSDAY 22nd MAY 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Alistair Strathern, MP for the Hitchin constituency, has celebrated securing an extra later bus service to supply Kimpton and Whitwell commuters after previously having no evening onward connection.
The 7pm 314 bus service from Welwyn Garden City train station will now be extended to Kimpton and Whitwell.
Strathern’s office wrote to the Herts County Council on behalf of a constituent to urge them to fill this gap. The expanded 7pm service by CentreBus will operate from the end of June.
Since being elected Strathern has been campaigning for better local transport connections. This work, among other projects, has seen him support residents campaigning to successfully bring buses back to Lilley and push Arriva to consider expanding services to and from Offley.
If any other constituents are struggling with similar bus network gaps, they can contact Strathern’s office at alistair.strathern.mp@parliament.uk
Alistair Strathern MP said:
“I am thrilled to have been able to successfully advocate for an important extension to bus services, to ensure commuters and other travellers from Kimpton and Whitwell can make it home safely and affordably.
“These kind of missing transport links can cost passengers huge amounts in taxis or cause them to walk long-distances cross-country.
“I am aware there are many other missing bus links, so I would encourage constituents to come forward to report those that are being a real blight for them.”
