PRESS RELEASE FROM ALISTAIR STRATHERN MP
WEDNESDAY 25th JUNE 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Alistair Strathern, MP for the Hitchin constituency, has welcomed a letter and posters from Hitchin scouts, highlighting the need for climate action.
Members of 6th Hitchin, a collective of scouts, cubs and beavers wrote a letter to Strathern’s office, and sent over a dozen posters with slogans like, ‘there is no planet B’ and ‘save the planet’.
Some of the posters are now hanging in Strathern’s Westminster and constituency offices.
Strathern also put out a post to thank the group for their letter and artwork. You can see the post here and an image attached.
Before being elected, Strathern worked at the Bank of England leading on their climate insurance policy. As an MP he has been campaigning for bolder climate action, previously serving as the chair of the Environment cross-party group and successfully persuading the Government to change regulations so that new homes come with solar panels as standard.
Alistair Strathern MP said:
“I want to thank 6th Hitchin for their passionate letter and fantastic posters, calling attention to the urgency of climate change.
“Seeing people of all ages engaged and campaigning for environmental action gives me great hope.
“We’re lucky to have so much fantastic nature on our doorstep locally, but it’s vital we do more to protect it.
“I have been really pleased to see the Government leading on climate action, investing billions in sustainable energy, including to quadruple wind, setting up the public sustainable energy company GB Energy and adopting my campaign for solar panels to come as standard on new homes.
“There is a long way to go though to meet our climate commitments, and I will be pushing the Government all the way to ensure we do.”
