Hitchin MP calls for nominations to celebrate local rural champions

PRESS RELEASE FROM ALISTAIR STRATHERN MP

THURSDAY 12 SEPTEMBER 2024

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Alistair Strathern, MP for the Hitchin Constituency, is urging the public to nominate key local community members for the annual Countryside Alliance Awards

The Countryside Alliance Awards, nicknamed the ‘Rural Oscars’, were borne of a need to support and promote rural communities. They celebrate people going the extra mile to ensure that rural Britain’s food and farming industry, small businesses, traditional skills, forward-thinking enterprises and, most of all, its people, can flourish.

Fantastic local farms, high street business and local groups play a crucial part in making the local area so special, and Mr Strathern is urging everyone locally to go the extra mile and nominate much loved local institutions for the awards.

Mr Strathern supports the Labour Government’s plans to rejuvenate British farming, increasing domestic use, standards and exports. He also backs plans to reform business rates to encourage more enterprise across our constituency and the country.

Alistair Strathern MP commented:

“These awards are a fantastic way to promote the local business people who work hard to keep rural Britain thriving.

“Our local produce is second to none and there are so many community heroes and businesses worthy of national recognition, so nominate today.

“Let’s see if we can bring an award or two home for Hitchin!.”
