Alistair Strathern, MP for the Hitchin constituency, has publicly backed the Save our White Horse campaign, in Kimpton.
The White Horse is a former pub in Kimpton, that has been left to dilapidate by its owner, while they try to get approval for a housing development over the line. Local residents are campaigning to block this application, and bring the building back its former life as a treasured community pub.
Strathern met with local residents to discuss how he could support the effort this week. You can see a picture attached.
As a keen supporter of the important role local village pubs can play, he has written to North Herts council to voice his objections, and to back calls to rejuvenate the pub.
The Save our White Horse campaign has been going on for over 10 years to block repeated attempts at residential development. The ongoing engagement and effort from the local community is a sign of the enthusiasm to save this valued pub.
Alistair Strathern MP said:
“I know just how important village pubs are as hubs for their community.
“It was fantastic to met Ian and Doug from the Save our White Horse, hear more about their fantastic local campaigning and to offer my support.
“This pub, after such a long time closed and in limbo, deserves to reopen and serve Kimpton’s community once more.
“I’ll be backing the Save our White Horse campaign all the way, and continuing to campaign nationally for more support and protections for vital community pubs.” Notes to Editors
